Glossary
PEOPLE
AIDEN MAYNAEIR — Tornbaer’s
spymaster, annoyingly secretive, arrogant, and more than a little demanding.
AQUILA — Aiden’s pet
eagle hails from Hanan a group of almost impassable mountains. Hanan eagles are
very rare, and I got to say, there is something amazingly strange amount this
creature.
AREW — Dodgy merchant
of hard to acquire goods, he doesn’t sell fish despite being location in the
Fish Quarter of the Astrom bazaar.
ARLO — Aiden’s battered
manservant, he really should join the ISU (Indentured Servants Union).
AROON — Sailor of The
Tempest or The Beauty (the name of the ship depends on the day, port or who you
ask). Aroon decided to work for Morgan after she liberated him, but that is
another story.
ASHARN ROBERT
DALLINGER — Prince of the realm, second in line to the Tornbaern throne. His
father and mother tried and failed to tame him. Rumour has it that he has proven
troublesome to prospective admirers, foreign princess, and well to anyone of
high rank. His father even had to ask the Kings Guard to tenderise him a little,
the only positive outcome of such was the castle occupant’s ability to watch
him train shirtless.
BELLA — AKA
Ysabella Beaute Vanglassen, Marlo fondly calls her Skylark. Brothel girl turned
crewmember of the Tempest/Beauty. Friend of Morgan Jones, she is the bastard
child of a noble, the only clue of such aside from her surname is some insane
skills with a bow. Bella’s first bow was a gift from her late father. Bella was
cast out at a young age for lacking in well everything, but that is another rather
sad story.
BLACK CLOAKS — Take
your average school bully not the misunderstood kind and mix it with a crazy sociopath,
then throw in a lack of emotion and conscience, are you beginning to understand
how evil these guys are? Worse still, no one even knows why they do what they
do, and just who is pulling their strings.
BLOODY MARY — Captain
of the Brothel Beauty, you seriously don’t want to meet her on the open seas, you
don’t want to meet her anywhere. I mean, if at least half of what they say
about her is true…look just don’t.
BRIA — Rena’s favourite
brothel girl, don't worry it’s not just you, she gets on everyone’s nerves.
CABIN BOY — AKA Sha
was rescued from a slave ship bound for Sirillia. Just what is he hiding behind
that charmingly handsome smile?
CASTAIN — Captain
of The Serpent. He’s basically pirate royalty, some would even say that he is the
king of all pirates. Despite that, little is known about this illusive character.
I can tell you one thing for certain however…never, ever, cross swords with
him. Also, how weird is it that no one knows his surname.
COMMANDER ORTON — Commander
of the Garrison at Astrom.
DENZA ANNIAS — Proprietor
of the Horney Sailor, a tavern near the docks of Bastien also a black-market
bootleg operator. He takes pride in his appearance and of course everyone else’s.
Denza was a cute little noble once, but that’s a story for another time.
FIFE KORD DALLINGER
— Duke of Rollston, a duchy in Tornbaer, brother to the king. Knight of the
Realm (a title given to the leader of the Armies). The Duke holds the position
of Tornbaer’s best swordsman, although he did spend most of his life gaining inch
after inch of the enemy’s soil. I do note, that there are stories lingering
around the castle, that he treats his pets awfully, and his son even worse.
GARY and BOB — Guards
at the Citadel, both used to be solders in the king’s army, they have seen much
action in The Great Sirillian War. It’s quite possible that their lack of promotion
is due to a lack of something that should be stored upstairs.
HERMES — A Stallion
from Plains Herder stock that was raised specifically for a chieftain. This
gift from Denza is pretty impressive considering the fact that Plains Herders
don’t give their prized steads to anyone, unless of course, a fair amount of
blood is spilled.
HERNE JAMISON
DALLINGER — King of Tornbaer, His Royal Highness known for his love of hunting
although that runs in the family. Quick to anger, mostly due to his two sons.
Married to Mira.
JAIERA MAYBLE
DALLINGER — Princess of Tornbaer. The princess was said to be an angel that
brought a smile to the castle occupants faces. Sadly, she was killed by the black
clocks, another reason to dislike those disrespectful denizens.
KING JAEGAR HENRY
DALLINGER — King Herne’s father. King Jaegar died in a hunting accident. You
would think that they would implement a halt on all such pursuits, but to this
day hunting is still a Dallinger’s favourite sport.
LASHIMA SHLLASHAN —
Princess of Storm, princess of the Reshda Desert Tribe. She likes daggers and
secrets.
LUTHOR — Leo’s prized hunting dog.
MARLO ORYN — Second in command of The Beauty/Tempest, commonly
referred to as Morgan’s second. He is afraid of heights, funnily enough he is a
half breed man giant that towers above everyone. Marlo is hands down the
smartest in any room, he has designed and implement countless improvements to
the ship and has many more stored in his impressive mind.
MEENA — AKA Sparrow. Meena’s origin is unclear, although she came
equipped with two identical swords that she knows how to use, each sword has a
ribbon on the hilt. Also, it really is best not to meet Meena in a dark alley.
MIRA ROSE DALLINGER — Queen of Tornbaer. Mira was trained by the
Sisterhood of Amare. Bit of gossip for you…Mira is apparently a bit of a
perfectionist, her gardens and well everything must be trimmed to flawlessness.
The castle maids also said that her sons always keep her up at night,
especially the youngest.
MORGAN JONES — AKA Albatross Captain of The Tempest a merchant ship.
Morgan Jones is a well reputed sort; she is known for being good at striking a
deal and never leaving a port unless a good amount of money has been made. Morgan
is also known for having the right people around her, the sailors under her are
said to be very good at their jobs and annoyingly loyal.
NIA DANFORTH — Sister
of Amare, Nia took a vow of silence therefore she signs to everyone. No one
actually knows if she can speak or why she decided to leave the quiet nun life
only to set up shop in the brothel, it all seems rather absurd.
PIPER JONES — Morgan’s
adopted daughter, she is more than a little naughty and always gets what she wants,
the only person that can really tame her is Morgan.
RENA SLATER — Proprietor of the Bouncing Bosoms a Brothel in
Crewtown catering to excusive clientele.
RORG — Highly feared captain of The Dragons Tooth, this guy was bad
news, Rorg was taken down by Bloody Mary which makes her a hundred times scarier.
SAILORS OR CREW OF THE BEAUTY/TEMPEST — Gruth, Brady, Ameile,
Cheese, Sam, and Aroon.
PLACES
ASTROM — A city on the coast of Sirillia
that is located on the edge of the Dantallo Desert. As well as being Sirillia’s
main seaport, this deceptively beautiful place is known for its oasis themed terraces
that overlook the sea, they really do lull you into a sense of security.
BASTIEN — This
place is nothing like the brochure, probably because they couldn’t fit so many
interesting things on so few pages. The capital city of Tornbaer can be divided
into the Upper City, Lower City and Citadel areas. The most notifiable landmarks
are the two massive bridges that every ship must sail under and the canals
which connect the city’s areas together.
CITADEL — A large
castle in Bastien home to the Dallinger family who currently rule over Tornbaer,
the Citadel is broken into four parts The Guest Quarters, Royal Apartments, Servant’s
Quarters, and Common Quarters.
CREWTOWN — Coastal
town home to pirates and fisherman alike. Crewtown is free from Kingdom rule
primarily because it’s difficult to get a large force through the Gap without
incurring heavy casualties.
DANTALLO DESERT
OASIS — Located in the Northwest corner of the Dantallo Desert, home of the
Reshda Desert tribe.
DANTALLO DESERT — One
of the many deserts that is in central Sirillia.
DULCEA — A Duchy in Tornbaer usually referred to as the Northern
Kingdom it is located to the north of Tornbaer, its
ruled by Kritchner Debou Bonnard. Dulcea is high in riches primarily due to its
fertile farmland.
FARTHING CLIFFS — Some
very expansive sea cliffs to the east of Astrom, not at all safe for diving,
also very dangerous for ships in stormy conditions.
HAUTBAS — Area in
the duchy of Dulcea, famous for its Coffee Beans.
JORN — A small
Barony characterised by quiet coastal villages and little else, it lies in a
remote area to the South of Tornbaer.
MIERMA — The world
which this story is set, it has two moons.
PLAINS HERD — Plains
herders are from the flat land or plains, in the east of Tornbaer the area is
usually called Plains Herd.
ROLLSTON — A Duchy
to the south of Tornbaer ruled by Duke Fife Dallinger.
SIRILLIA — A large
Continent sometimes referred to as the Western Continent by Kingdom folks, as
its main port lies to the West of Bastien, most commonly famous for its alchemy
it is however rich in minerals and metals.
THE GAP — Entry to
Crewtown from the sea, there are cliffs on both sides at the seaward entry onto
the gap the cliff walls almost touch at the top.
TORNBAER — A large
Continent of which the capital city is Bastien, Tornbaer is strong in commerce
and engineering, although depends on who you ask. Currently, ruled by the
Dallinger family, it has many secrets most include some of the random landmarks
of which no one has any idea how they got there, such as the Northern and
Southern Bridges in Bastien.
BOUNCING BOSOMS — A
Brothel in Crewtown catering to excusive clientele.
THINGS
ANEITSU —Morgan has
been trained in this fighting style; it uses an opponent’s momentum against
them. A monk from Tanye in Sirillia taught her, but that is a story for another
day.
CAPTAIN’S BASTARD —
A shedding Card Game that pirates like to play. If you get rid of your card
before everyone else you earn the title of Captain for a round this comes with
perks, if you lose however, you become the Bastard. Here’s the catch you can only put down a card/s
if they are higher than the previous. Passing is bad because you must get rid
of your cards to win.
Fool: Is a trump
card and you can use it for anything, but it can’t be played last.
Captain: Second
highest card in the deck, this one is good to have.
Second: Third
highest card.
King: Fourth highest
card.
Queen: Fifth highest
card.
Prince: You get the
idea.
7: Reverse the direction
of play.
10-3: Boringly normal
cards, but if you have more than one, they can be helpful.
CROWN — Currency of
Tornbaer
DRAGON’S FIRE — An
oily substance that is extremely dangerous, said to have the ability to burn
nonstop for months, the art of its making has been long forgotten.
EARLY AGES — A time
very long ago which little is known about. Relics from this age are littered
around Mierma such as the Northern and Southern Bridges in Bastien and parts of
the Citadel. Much has been forgotten about this time and so it is spoken about
with great speculation.
KING’S ARMY – The
Bastinian Army is known for is red mailed attire and brutal tactics.
KING’S GUARD — The
Bastinian Guard are trained in a shield and double-edged sword style as well as
Heavy armour training. The Kings Guard wear gold plated armour. Obviously, it
is their job to project the king.
LIUYEDAO — This is
common name for a single edged blade, they are usually shorter in length
because they are used for close quarters combat. Meena has two of these,
although strangely hers came with ribbons.
SENTINEL CLASS SHIP
— A large relatively slow-moving ship that is mainly used for troop movement.
THE BROTHEL BEAUTY —
Bloody Mary’s Ship, it is said that this ship is decked out with contraptions
that allow Mary easier access to her prey, actually this ship really is the
last ship you want to see on the horizon.
THE DRAGONS TOOTH —
Rorg’s ship
The Great Sirillian War — This war lasted
for nearly eight years and exhausted most of Tornbaer’s and Sirillia’s armies. Fife
Dallinger led the charge on behalf of Tornbaer across the Sirillian continent. The
outcome was a decisive victory for Tornbaer although aside from the ability to
place garrisons in strategic places not much has changed.
THE TEMPEST — Morgan
Jones ship, a merchant class ship of good standing.
YUIANI — An ancient sword technique using katanas and ribbons to
kill looks distinctly like dancing just a little
more deadly.
